ELECTRODESSICATION
Electrodessication is a quick and simple office-based technique where an electrical current is used to remove specific skin lesions such as sebaceous hyperplasia, cherry angiomas, seborrheic keratoses, skin tags, and brown spots. After the procedue we will place a drop of vaseline and a bandaid and will recommend to keep the area dry and not washing it for 24 to 48 hours.
SKIN TAGS
Skin tags are common, soft, small, flesh-colored or hyperpigmented, pedunculated lesions; there are usually multiple lesions, typically on the neck, axilla, and groin. Skin tag removal is a very common procedure in our clinic in Windsor.
SURGICAL RESECTION
This procedure is used for sebaceous cysts, benign nevi, larger size epidermal cysts, fibroepithelial polyps, hemangiomas, neurofibromatas and lipomas. It involves making a skin incision with a scalpel and cutting around the change at full skin thickness under local anesthesia. Then the wound is closed with sutures or staples. Patients may be required to have a followup visit for suture removal in 5-10 days, depending on anatomic location of resection.
CYSTS & LIPOMAS
Epidermal cysts are benign but may cause discomfort and may rupture internally, causing a rapidly enlarging, painful foreign body reaction and abscess. Epidermal cysts may have a visible pore; their contents are white, cheesy, and malodorous. Skin cyst removal is a common procedure we perform.
SHAVE EXCISIONS
Small fibroepithelial polyps neurofibromatas and skin tags can be removed with shave excision. This involves cutting off the lesion at the base after administering local anesthesia.
MOLES AND NEVI
Moles are pigmented lesions, typically flesh or brown colored. They are composed of nests of melanocytes or nevus cells. Share resemblance with melanoma. Mole removal and nevi removal is third most common procedure we perform.
